Any time there’s a piece of information that you would like to stick in your brain – whenever you use it, always, always, always try your best to recall it from memory. DO NOT default to looking it up.

Sure, if you fail to recall after trying your best, then look it up to refresh your memory – but just peek at it a little bit, just the tiniest bit of priming, and then try to recall the rest of it.

Your brain is lifting a weight and the reference material is your spotter – it’s there as a last resort to help you get the weight up, only when you absolutely can’t get it up yourself, and the amount of help should be kept to the bare minimum.
